I have grown up and spent most of my
life in St. Louis, and like many St. Louisans, have
developed a love for the city and the landmarks that are
around every corner.
I started taking the Shades pictures in
2000 and although my first attempts did not turn out exactly
as I wanted, I got enough encouragement to continue taking
these odd angled shots of my hometown.
Portraits and custom
pictures were a natural fit for his artwork and have become
more and more popular in their own right over the last
couple of years.
Frequently Asked Questions...
Where did you get the idea for
this artwork?
Well, it was an idea that had been buzzing around
in my head for quite awhile, stemming from a very long drive
to work. One's mind tends to wander on drives like
this and 'Shades of St. Louis' is where mine wandered to. Around 2000, I decided to
try it out...
I think the idea basically stemmed from seeing
different images in people’s sunglasses. Some pictures come
out as I plan them and... some do not.
Are the images of St. Louis
super-imposed on the sunglasses?
No… the picture that you see is the picture that I
saw – through the lens of my camera. There are no ‘special
effects’ employed
